Versus machines that disintegrate it.
Building things on the internet is easier than ever. It is, as I once heard it said 'coding at the speed of thought'. Looking into the implications of this speed on the human experiment is too big to matter :), rather in this piece I will try to argue that:
There are Machines that assemble Soul, and Machines that disintegrate it.

I was studying nephrology when I thought of vampires :)

The kidney is basically a filter that processes blood, its filteration capacity decreases over time. Even if you are 100% healthy, never had a disease in your life, your kidney will be less effective at filtering toxins and maintaining equilibrium in your body. Your kidney will die, eventually, you would need a transplant or constant dialysis.

Here come vampires! Since vampires live forever, their kidneys die in the first 100 years, they have to take blood from other people because their bodies can't filter blood!

They are immortal, forever, and sad and evil and hot... ? I guess. This trope is driven from their immortality. It is like the immortal possesses characters that we do not attribute to the human, of soul... Vampires are like demons, gods, mirrors do not see them, and garlic kills them.

In our popular imagination we have transformed those immortal beings to a status larger than their need for blood to survive, and I would argue it is their immortality that is the cause.

A more philosophically sound phrase would sound like: The entity is contained, at least in part, within the bounds of its limitation.

Human with immortality is Vampire, what is becomes Human with Artificial Intelligence? What is becomes Human uploaded to the Cloud?

What becomes Human with Machine?

Will the Human transcend toward their soul or be transformed away from it?
I dabble with these questions it is today so easy to make software. With one prompt Claude by Anthropic will make a beautiful website, clean user experience, and teach step-by-step how to deploy it... and each time I start a project -which I do more often than I finish them- I ask myself: will this software transcend the human, or transform it?

I don't think I can tell, not yet, not now. I know that I like he human, I know its flaws, but the beauty of it is in watching the human overcome them with its flaws.
